A New Addition to the Family!
Meet Willett Larue! A new addition to Beyond the Barrel. He tells us this bottle is a tall expectation for him to live up to. We say, "Don't worry, you'll grow!"
We call Willett, “Willie” for short. I’ve been a part of a Yorkie loving family for a while. In fact, my parents have had three over the years; they are just fantastic little creatures. I knew when I brought this guy home he would melt my wife’s heart on the spot! And he did just that and more. Being such a bourbon geek, of course I needed to pay homage to bourbon history and the name suited him well (referencing both Willett and William Larue Weller).
Willett bourbon has had a special place with me for a long time. As far as craft sourced bourbons go, the variety was always there. Barrel number, by barrel number. Wax top color, by wax top color. Wheat vs. rye. All the options pointed to very cool expressions!
One of my all-time favorite pours (Top 5 ever in my library) would be the Willett 25 year rye, barrel 1777. The nose makes you sit down and rethink your life. Raisin, oak, a bit of must and tobacco and then...a flavor bomb! The color is so dark it almost looks like Coca-Cola! One of those special pours that I’m always going to remember. What’s your special pour? Have you ever named a pet after a bourbon?
