Elijah Craig Small Batch Review

Sunny Friday's in Kentucky are the best days!

Today, I'm sampling a recent gem that released in my back yard. An Elijah Craig Small Batch privately selected barrel by Liquor Barn. This 75% corn, 13% Rye, and 12% malted barley mash bill from Heaven Hill typically ranges in a mingling of 8 to 12 years in age coming in at a 94 proof bottling. Let's dive into the tasting notes!

Tasting Environment: Poured "neat" into a Canadian Glencairn glass. Tasted outside with sunshine in a comfortable 70 degree atmosphere.

Nose: Toasty Vanilla, Nutmeg, Sweet Corn with a small hint of Mint.

Appearance: Caramel color, average legs and viscosity.

Palate: Oaky on the front of the palate but not overbearing. Evolving into a minty mouthfeel that saturates and lingers bringing spice in behind it.

Finish: Long finish, spice present but not overwhelming strong heat. Just sassy. The mint really dominates and lingers after.

Overall: Two whiskey glasses up! I'm going to honestly say I'm not generally a fan of mint in a flavor profile, but in this case it just works. It's a solid pour, and balanced well with the other characteristics to make it a dangerously easy sipper. At $29 a bottle you can't beat an already solid bourbon. Buying it from a speciality selected barrel for the same price? It's a no brainer! I would definitely recommend it. Cheers to a great weekend all!
